The Therapeutic Products Division is responsible for planning and ensuring the country's supply of essential pharmaceuticals, medical devices and hygiene products in the event of severe shortages that the economy cannot manage independently. Therapeutic products encompass both pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Foodstuffs
An adequate food supply is essential for survival. Consequently, food shortages are immediately perceived as a crisis. The Foodstuffs Division ensures that Switzerland maintains a supply of critical commodities and foodstuffs during serious shortages.

Logistics
The NES can intervene with support measures in the event of major disruptions to the logistics chains supplying the country with critical goods.

ICT – Information and communication technologies
Information and communication technologies (ICT) are a key prerequisite for the provision of vital goods and services. The National Economic Supply (NES) works together with businesses and public authorities to prepare measures that ensure the availability of critical ICT services, even in severe shortage situations, and to minimize the impact of disruptions on Switzerland’s supply and provision of essential goods and services.

Industry
The Industry Division of the National Economic Supply (NES) focuses on raw materials, auxiliary materials, and industrial goods that are used across sectors and are indispensable for ensuring the supply of essential goods and services in Switzerland. It regularly reviews the procurement risks associated with these goods and, together with supply‑relevant companies, prepares precautionary measures to manage potential shortages. The Division supports the industrial sector in maintaining the production of essential goods and services as reliably as possible, even during severe shortages, thereby helping to ensure Switzerland’s basic supply.
