Release of compulsory stocks

Goods can be released from compulsory stocks in the event of a severe nationwide shortage to ease the situation when the private sector is no longer able to meet market demand.

Following an assessment of the supply situation, the National Economic Supply of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) may request the release of compulsory stocks. The release is authorized by ordinance and is revoked once the supply situation has returned to normal.

The Delegate for National Economic Supply is authorised to release up to 20% of the compulsory stock quantities for each product without a formal request.
