Release of compulsory stocks
Goods can be released from compulsory stocks in the event of a severe nationwide shortage to ease the situation when the private sector is no longer able to meet market demand.
In the event of supply shortages, the NES analyes the supply situation and can then apply to the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) for compulsory stocks to be released. An ordinance is issued to this effect. Once the market situation returns to normal, the NES asks for an end to the release of compulsory stocks.
The Delegate for National Economic Supply is authorised to release up to 20% of the compulsory stock quantities for each product.
